This page provides more information about buying a DVD player.

Click on the links above for info about caring for your DVDs and more.

There's never been a better time to buy a DVD player.  Prices are falling every day, and you can even buy a DVD player now with your weekly shopping!  The major supermarkets have some decent standard DVD players starting at just under £20!

All players, even these budget ones, support a standard set of features:

  • Language choice (for automatic selection of video scenes, audio tracks, subtitle tracks, and menus).*
  • Special effects playback: freeze, step, slow, fast, and scan (no reverse play or reverse step).
  • Parental lock (for denying playback of discs or scenes with objectionable material).*
  • Programmability (playback of selected sections in a desired sequence).
  • Random play and repeat play.
  • Digital audio output (PCM stereo and Dolby-Digital).
  • Compatibility with audio CDs.

* Must be supported by additional content on the disc.

We recommend the either the Durabrand DVD900 player from Asda or the Digilogic DVD player from Tesco
(both are the same player) , which as well as playing all types of DVDs
will also playback Video CDs, audio CDs and CDs recorded with MP3 music files &
JPEG digital camera pictures.  All for change from £20!!
