Back in 1997, when we released our first home video, Nova Home Entertainment was set-up is a separate division of Nova - specifically to look after Nova's interests in the home video market.
10 years later, and Nova Home Entertainment is one of the UK's leading specialist transport DVD producers, with a strong position in the areas o railways, buses, trams and trolleybuses.
In addition to DVD producing, we also distribute our range from our headquarters in Doncaster.
Our major clients include Ian Allan Bookshops, Midland Counties, several major catalogue and mail order retailers and many independent retailers across the world.
In March 2007, Nova Home Entertainment unveiled plans to expend our range of transport DVDs to include cars and commercial vehicles - and to move into leisure interest programming with a new range of painting and walking DVDs to be released in 2008.
We are unique in the business for mixing the specialist interest sector with the marketing and promotional ideas of the mainstream 'big guys'. Nova DVDs have appeared both as reader offers and covermounts - and we are always looking for new promotional activities.
In 2000, we were the first transport producer in the UK to offer "full featured" DVDs - with Hollywood-style special features - making the DVD purchase something specially. And we were the first to completely move to the new disc format for all our releases three years later.
In 2005, we launched Almand Video as a separate label to create both backend revenue from life-expired full-price programming, and for specifically-produced low-intensity programmes.
This year, we will launch our new Calming Times range of landscape DVDs, designed to give everyone a relaxing break from the world at large.
Traditionally, all of the programmes Nova Home Entertainment has released have been commissioned from our sister division, Nova Television Productions - but we are always interested in talking to independent producers with innovative content to provide DVD publishing solutions.
As well as our own DVD releasing schedule, we have put together bespoke box sets and releases at the request of retailers and publishers - so our ears are always open…
Despite our history being built on the sale of tapes, CDs and now DVDs, Nova Home Entertainment is central to Nova's group aim of becoming a large player in the emerging video download market. Cross-promotion with Nova Home Entertainment's DVD and CD releases is essential to driving visitors to the new Nova online television channels - and the division's content forms the mainstay of the pay downloads available from them.
Many things have changed in the 10 years since our first home video release, but our commitment to quality programming, innovation in content and a desire to follow the latest technology will ensure that Nova Home Entertainment will stay at the top of the game for the next 10 years - and beyond.
